BeAnotherLab is an artistic group and interdisciplinary research group founded in Barcelona in 2012, and which developed the "La Máquina de Ser Otro" (TMBA) project. This Creative Commons multisensory tool is designed to promote tolerance and mutual respect through virtual reality interventions (VR). Through the combination of virtual reality, cognitive sciences and performatic art, the TMBA system offers users the possibility of seeing themselves in a different body while offering the possibility of movement, interaction with space and narrative as well as the possibility of receiving realistic tactical feedback.
The group is devoted to compression, communication and extension of subjective experiences; focusing its work on researching the relationship between identity and empathy from an embodied / "embodied" perspective and the development of innovative applications in art, scientific research, social projects, health and education, putting a strong emphasis on social impact and innovation in the lives of people. His work is based on a distributed model of action-research and collaborative design of methodologies. They carry out collaborations in multiple countries, disciplines and institutions.
The group works at the intersection between art, science and technology, questioning the hierarchies between these different forms of knowledge. The group is committed to the invention of new collaborative models of sustainability, and is not based on individuals, but rather on the idea of sharing and on expanding identities and communities.
