Carlos Vásquez Méndez is an artist and researcher. The media he uses are film and photography from a documentary and experimental perspective, establishing constant correspondence between artistic practice, social sciences, the analogical and the digital. His works have been exhibited in various shows and festivals. In 2016 his film [Pewen] Araucaria received the Joris Ivens Prize / National Center for Plastic Arts (France). Graduate in Cinema, Master's Degree in Creation (IDEC / UPF) and Master's Degree in Contemporary Art Creation (UB), currently develops his doctoral research on the documentary turn in contemporary art through the concept of dialectical images (CONICYT Grant). His subjects of interest are historical rewriting, documentary strategy, real art representations, photo-film record as archival production and obsolete techniques as aesthetic-political discourse. Its base is the city of Barcelona and works frequently in Latin America.
