TOPLAP Barcelona is a group that practices and promotes live coding as a sound and visual creation technique, generating a technological appropriation through the use and development of open and free software focused on generating relationships and own discourses. TOPLAP Barcelona is a meeting place for the livecoder community in which to investigate, play live and develop projects around live coding.
The activities organized by the group are: workshops, talks, monthly live coding scratch sessions, periodical meetings with the research community, as well as algorithms. It also provides consultancy in projects that use real-time code as an element in the arts, digital humanities and sciences.
For TOPLAP live coding is a form of stage art and a creativity technique focused on writing in real-time source code and the use of interactive programming, is a new direction in electronic music, it is improvised and formalized in public Live coders expose and modify in real time the software generating music and / or images, while the code manipulation is projected to allow to see process. Live coding works in all musical genres, and for the elements that make up it (art, science and technology) it also forms a social and political discourse.
